60 Years Anniversary TBA Magnum

Weinlaubenhof Kracher , Österreich
Tasted as a sample from the 1,000-liter oak vat, the apricot colored 2017 Welschriesling Trockenbeerenauslese 60th Anniversary is an homage to the early times when grapes for sweet wines were macerated for a day and kept on the full lees in large oak for almost a year. With yeasty aromas on the intense and concentrated nose of stewed apricots, this is a rich, lush, elegant, super dense and persistent TBA with great finesse and very fine tannins. This is a gorgeous, very long, fresh and complex yet filigreed TBA with beautifully salinity. 12% alcohol. A great new (old) style for Kracher. Tasted in Illmitz, December 2018. (WineAdvocate)

2017 Chardonnay Kreuz
Tropenfrucht und kräuterwürze in der Nase, am Gaumen Stachelbeeren, zitronig, ananas, etwas Vanille und Blütenhonig, gut eingebundenes Holz, langanhaltender, frischer Abgang. From 25-year-old vines (low-yielding Burgundian clones with very small berries) on Illmitzs gravel soils, the 2015 Chardonnay "Kreuz" aged for two years in low-toasted new barriques. This 2015 displays intense fruit, and on the palate, this is a full-bodied, fresh yet richly extracted and tightly structured Chardonnay with a long, fresh, salty, super tensioned and finessed finish. A stunning new entry into the Kracher portfolio. Gerhard discovered the dry Chardonnays his father Alois had made in 1992, 1993 and 1994, which were amazing, so he decided to produce it again, though its not clear if his father harvested the same vineyards. 92/100 The Wine Advocate / Stephan Reinhardt

2002 TBA No. 5 Scheurebe
#5 Scheurebe Trockenbeerenauslese Zwischen den Seen displays vividly Scheurebe-typical aromas of sage, peppermint, grapefruit and honey. Startlingly bright and juicy on entry, this builds strength and powers to intense, scintillating flavors of grapefruit, candied citrus rinds, honey and high-toned sweet herbal distillates joined less by the typical cassis than by a lovely note of Maine blueberries. The feel is creamy yet at the same time the wine remains invigoratingly sharp. The endlessly reverberating finish pulls out all the stops from a rich, nut oil-flavored, malty low register through the range of vivid citrus and blue fruit to high-toned distilled berry and herb notes. #5, Kracher explains, was racked early and then rushed, reductively, into bottle. You might say it’s Scheurebe with a look over his shoulder at (long-time Muller-Catoir winemaker) Hans-Gunter Schwarz. 97/100 The Wine Advocate / David Schildknecht
