Very complex nose of tropical fruit coulis, vanilla, candied ginger and toffee apples. Serious concentration and density, but also a vibrancy that wines of this category seldom have. You need some time to sink into the aromatic and textural complexity, but it’s more than worth the effort. Long, silky and elegant finish. Drink or hold.

Based on 65% Welschriesling and 35% Chardonnay, the golden-yellow 2021 Trockenbeerenauslese No 3 Grande Cuvée Nouvelle Vague opens with a concentrated and savory nose of candied pineapples and lemons along with notes of brown sugar and fine oak. Round and generous on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and refined, elegant and stimulating, saline and finely buoyant TBA with concentrated fruit, fine tannins and a long, caramelly and saline, tight and intense finish

Picked a couple of days earlier than the Red Roses BA, the 2021 Trockenbeerenauslese No 4 Rosenmuskateller Nouvelle Vague is deep, refined and spicy on the pure and elegant nose that reveals candied cherry, nougat, mocha and also floral aromas. Full-bodied, rich and elegant on the palate, this is a concentrated and savory, lemony and tight TBA with fine tannins, candied lemon and grapefruit notes on the finish. This is very young but promising.

Leuchtendes Gelb mit erstem Goldschimmer. Das einzigartige, komplexe Bouquet berauscht von der ersten Sekunde an, liefert weit gefächerte Schichten mit Power und Eleganz gleichzeitig. Es duftet nach Mirabellen, reifen Aprikosen, Vanille, Kokos, mit dezent buttrigem Ansatz. Im Gaumen das Maximum abliefernd und trotzdem mit Finessen aufwartend, im gebündelten, extrem langen Finale schmeckt es dann erfrischend herrlich nach Nektarinen und weissem Pfirsich. Von der perfekten Balance her, hat er ein dekadenlanges Leben vor sich. Diese Grande Cuvée könnte man auch als «Everybodys Darling» beschreiben. Mittleres Gelbgold, Messingreflexe. Feine Holzwürze, zart nach Bourbon-Vanille, gelbe Tropenfrucht, etwas Lanolin und Marzipan, einladendes Bukett. Komplex, saftig, gelber Pfirsich, zart nach Marille, dezente Säurestruktur, feiner Honig im Abgang, eleganter Stil internationalen Zuschnitts, gutes Entwicklungspotenzial.

Das Bouquet ist eine regelrechte Duftquelle mit vielen Aromen. So kommen Noten von kandierten Früchten, Pfirsichen, Korinthen und Safran zur Geltung. Mit etwas Luft treten auch Düfte von Trüffel, Nougat und Passionsfrucht in den Vordergrund. Am Gaumen ist der Wein sehr dicht und vereint Spannung mit Cremigkeit. Kracher Kollektion Grande Cuvée Trockenbeerenauslese Nouvelle Vague No. 3 2021 (Burgenland; 65%; Welschriesling; 35% Chardonnay; 210.7 g/l of residual sugar; total acidity of 8.0 g/l; 10% alcohol; tasted first at the Joanne press tasting and then with Gerhard Kracher at the offices of his Bordeaux courtier). This is the principle release on la place, with the other cuvées only available as part of the 2024 collection case. Apricot pure and simple – but painted by a great master in finely pixilated detail. A little candyfloss and peanut brittle – burnt sugar bitterness. So pure and precise. Very Lafaurie Peyraguey with lanolin and a little pineapple on the palate too. A little granny smith too and nectarine flesh and skin. Saline – massively so – and that brings concentration and density. Massively impactful and so pure. 98. Colin Hay
