Notions of ripe black plum and black cherry come with a faint notion of tar on the brooding nose. The palate comes in with absolute concentration and real intent. The tannins, stuctured and fine, have begun to resolve but leave no doubt about the absolute backbone. From Pulkau and aged for 4.5 years in a large stück oak vat, the 2019Grüner Veltliner Single Vineyard shows an intense yellow color with a greenish hue. The nose is spectacularly complex, very elegant and refined yet dense and far from being just fruity. On the palate, this is a seamless, refined and highly elegant Veltliner that's everything but Veltliner. The 2019 is full-bodied, elegant and entirely driven by its terroir. The finish is intense, dense and juicy, refined and saline. This is the greatest Veltliner I have ever tasted from the Weinviertel. Full-bodied, rich and elegant on the palate, this is a powerful and quite mighty, forceful Veltliner with ripe acidity, fine tannins yet also some bitters and not the energy of the St Georg Veltiner. Assembling fully ripe and overripe, late-harvested Chardonnay, Welschriesling and Scheurebe and bottled in March this year after 4.5 years in new barriques, the 2019 K offers a deep, intense and finely spicy, partly yeasty and phenolic bouquet of fully ripe and concentrated autumn fruits initially intermingled with some untamed leathery nuances yet with more air and also tropical fruit aromas such as mangoes, pineapples and melons. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, with a very dense and concentrated texture and seriously savory/mineral and phenolic grip, this is a still-challenging wine with a mouth-filling texture and serious structure. This is an old-fashioned white made in a contemporary way. The wine is aromatic, fresh and elegant yet also powerful and rich. It is well balanced, saline and vital on the finish yet still very young, with citrus fruit bitters. The finish is intense and complex and the aftertaste very long, intense and spicy, with serious grip and structural as well aromatic persistency. The 2021 Rosenmuskateller Beerneauslese is a pale, amber-tinged red. This contains shriveled, dried berries without botrytis as well as botrytised fruit. Candied petals of Damask rose shimmer on the nose, trailing aromatic red fruit like rosehip and pomegranate. The palate is fully sweet and viscous, with a lovely web of tannins and a gorgeous tone of treacle that is brightened by that tart, red aromatic fruit and candied blood orange. The 2021 is layered, superbly aromatic, always with the haunting sensation of rose petals. This wine is alluring, beguiling, unusual and rare, with exquisite balance and superb freshness. 96/100 Vinous

The 2021 Beerenauslese Zweigelt is once again a feat of winemaking. It is made from 60-70% botrytized fruit, resulting in a brilliantly pink hue. The lift of botrytis adds lift to the candied strawberry note on the nose, along with a touch of pepper. The palate is rich, candied and sweet yet beautifully fresh. The purity of this wine is astonishing. Its length, creaminess and smoothness are next level. 94/100 Vinous Ein leuchtendes Kirschrot, das bereits beim ersten Blick verführt. The 2021 Zweigelt TBA No. 2 Nouvelle Vague Kollektion has a beguiling pink hue. A most unusual touch of rose petals joins the gelée des fruits of forest berries and overtones of smokiness. The exquisitely sweet palate shines with purity, candied strawberry sucrosity and a touch of pepper. Freshness stands against all this, making the experience all the more intense. 96/100 Vinous Red TBA? Yes, it works, as this proves. Plenty of red currant jelly character, but this also has a quince jelly note and some baking spice nuances. Considerable richness on the full-bodied palate, but it’s not that sweet and the touch of tannins at the finish accentuates the wine’s drier side. Shocking dark pink. Fascinating. Miraculously, we have poached white pear in red wine, with a touch of clove and cinnamon. Confit raspberry; confit wild strawberry. Prune. Cognac-doused red cherries. A little apricot and, more on the palate than aromatically, Seville orange marmalade. Viscous, full and rich, yet brilliantly bright, lifted and charged with tension for a wine with nearly 200 g/l of residual sugar. Apricot pure and simple – but painted by a great master in finely pixilated detail. A little candyfloss and peanut brittle – burnt sugar bitterness. So pure and precise. Very Lafaurie Peyraguey with lanolin and a little pineapple on the palate too. A little granny smith too and nectarine flesh and skin.
