Trockenbeerenauslese wines from the Seewinkel region -

Noble sweet wines from the Kracher winery The Kracher winery is internationally renowned for its exceptional Trockenbeerenauslese wines from the Seewinkel region in Austria. The special climatic conditions around Illmitz and Lake Neusiedl - hot days, cool nights and damp fruit mist - create the ideal basis for the development of noble rot (Botrytis Cinerea), which is essential for high-quality Trockenbeerenauslese wines. Vinified with the utmost care, our wines are characterized by intense fruit, impressive concentration and a long shelf life. Kracher stands for sweet wines of perfection worldwide.

No. 3 Chardonnay Alois Kracher‘s re-released 2000 Trockenbeerenauslese No 3 Chardonnay Nouvelle Vague displays a saddle-brown color with a brightening, yellowish and lime-green edge. The bouquet is deep, very intense yet refined and displays saline notes and even slightly flinty nuances intertwined with nougat, dark caramel, licorice and plummy and stone fruit aromas. The wine is enormously rich on the palate yet immaculate in its perfect „100-pointer texture.“ This is a spell-binding beauty full of finesse and lively salinity that triggers an immediate swallowing reflex. „Oh, linger, you are so beautiful,“ I hear myself quoting Goethe‘s Faust II, but again and again this wine defies analysis and seduces shamelessly but perfectly. The long and saline, salivating finish reveals dark chocolate and refreshing lemon flavors and keeps the wine its it weightless, elegant and refined style. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Illmitz in June 2025. (100/100 Stephan Reinhardt | The Wine Advocate) 2005 TBA No. 7 Grande Cuvée Alois and Gerhard Kracher‘s 2005 Trockenbeerenauslese No 7 Grande Cuvée Nouvelle Vague is part of the 2025 Library Release and another stellar wine in the history of this domaine in Illmitz. Given the fact that this dark orange-colored noble sweet wine was aged in barriques, it displays a lovely deep yet pure, fresh and aromatic bouquet of stewed stone fruits and citrus fruit intermingled with nuances of nougat, toast, salt and caramel, maybe even flinty nuances. Rich but immaculate and highly finessed on the palate, this is a stimulating, even salivating saline and filigree- structured TBA that develops a very long and lively, even energetic finish due to this stunning, even mineral acidity. This is an ageless TBA that still has a long life ahead. 10% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Illmitz in June 2025. (100/100 Stephan Reinhardt | The Wine Advocate) 2005 TBA No. 9 Scheurebe The deep amber-colored 2005 Trockenbeerenauslese No 9 Scheurebe Zwischen den Seen is part of the 2025 Library Release. It opens with an intense and elegant bouquet of mint and eucalyptus and balsamic as well as concentrated fruit aromas that intermingle with nougat and caramel but also saline notes. This is a very rich but pristine TBA that might not be the most complex sweet wine of the 2025 Library Release, but it is highly finessed, stimulating saline, fresh and the perfect expression of Scheurebe (a.k.a. Sämling 88 in Austria). This is a spellbinding fresh, lemony and delicate TBA in the classic Austrian style (no barriques but large oak casks or stainless steel). 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Illmitz in June 2025. (100/100 Stephan Reinhardt| The Wine Advocate)

2000 TBA No. 1 Traminer
Dusty, smoky botrytis aromas are intermingled with spicy apricots in the nose of the 2000 #1 Traminer Trockenbeerenauslese Nouvelle Vague. Medium to full-bodied, bold, and lush, it reveals oak-laced peach flavors, loads of dusty noble rot, and a slightly rustic finish. This oily-textured, lush wine has outstanding concentration and depth. However, even with 116.2 grams of residual sugar per liter (14% alcohol, 5.6 grams/liter total acidity), it is dominated by Kracher’s other 2000s. 92/100 The Wine Advocate / Pierre Rovani

2005 TBA No. 3 Traminer
The 2005 #3 Traminer Trockenbeerenauslese Nouvelle Vague is strongly oriented along the animal – more precisely, marine-porcine – axis of this notorious family of grapes. Ham hock, candied rose petal and violets, celery seed, and ocean breeze rise from the glass. This coats the mouth with an oily residue of pork fat, along with rose oil, lychee, pineapple, and white pepper. There is a cut and brightness to the finish that belie the grape variety, the new wood, and this wine’s mere 7 grams of acidity. Cinnamon, white pepper, and bacon hog the finish from the fruits and flowers. This should be worth following for at least 15-20 years. 93/100 The Wine Advocate / David Schildknecht

2005 TBA No. 5 Chardonnay
Mittleres Gelbgold. The 2005 #5 Chardonnay Trockenbeerenauslese Nouvelle Vague is a study in oak as much as Chardonnay or botrytis right now, with spice, vanilla, coconut, and resin all accenting the aromas of tropical fruits and honey. Lovely hints of butterscotch and nutmeg emerge on the palate, where the counterpoint of bright pineapple and grapefruit with creaminess of texture is certainly impressive. But oak spice returns as a dominant theme in the finish, at least for now. Given 9.5 acidity, this wine’s 212 grams of residual sugar are unable to indulge themselves in any superficial display. 91/100 The Wine Advocate / David Schildknecht

2021 TBA No. 2 Zweigelt
2021 Trockebeerenauslese No.2 Zweigelt The 2021 Zweigelt Trockenbeerenauslese No. 2 Nouvelle Vague Kollektion has a beguiling pink hue. A most unusual touch of rose petals joins the gelée des fruits of forest berries and overtones of smokiness. The exquisitely sweet palate shines with purity, candied strawberry sucrosity and a touch of pepper. Freshness stands against all this, making the experience all the more intense. 96/100 Vinous Red Trockenbeerenauslese? Yes, it works, as this proves. Plenty of red currant jelly character, but this also has a quince jelly note and some baking spice nuances. Considerable richness on the full-bodied palate, but it’s not that sweet and the touch of tannins at the finish accentuates the wine’s drier side. Drink or hold. The 2021 Trockenbeerenauslese No 2 Zweigelt Nouvelle Vague reveals a bright cherry color and a clear and savory bouquet of kumquat, plums, candied cherries and salts. Elegant and round on the palate, this is a rich and concentrated, sweet yet fresh and lemony Trockenbeerenauslese with fine bitters and a tart, noble bitter and lemony finish. Shocking dark pink. Fascinating. Miraculously, we have poached white pear in red wine, with a touch of clove and cinnamon. Confit raspberry; confit wild strawberry. Prune. Cognac-doused red cherries. A little apricot and, more on the palate than aromatically, Seville orange marmalade. Viscous, full and rich, yet brilliantly bright, lifted and charged with tension for a wine with nearly 200 g/l of residual sugar. Pure, but perhaps the least complex of these, but with a lovely saline note on the finish. Kracking – Krach-ing perhaps! 94+. Colin Hay

2022 TBA No. 1 Zweigelt
The crimson-colored 2022 Trockenbeerenauslese No 1 Zweigelt Nouvelle Vague is deep, intense and refined on the nose that is still a little untamed but shows fresh red berry and floral aromas intermingled with saline notes. The wine is rich and intense, remarkably concentrated and reveals sustainable salinity and mineral tension on the long and complex, vital finish that also reveals fine but structuring tannins, which make this TBA an excellent wine to pair with food, especially after 10 to 20 years. By Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate Bright, blood red in the glass. Red apple, some bitter lemon and grapefruit touches, lifted zesty lemon and bright acidity makes this tangy yet sweet - a great combination that is so drinkable and enjoyable. Super impressive. Some bitter touches alongside the creamy, visovus texture. It manages to weave vibrancy with structure and intensity but keeping a lifted frame and moreish quality. Have with food. One of five wines in the line up, from the outstanding 2022 vintage, entering the Place de Bordeaux this September. Director and winemaker Gerhard Kracher. Georgina Hindle, Decanter Peach and pear belle Helene. Already quite a lot of sugar. A hint of raspberry too and, strangely perhaps, childhood memories of Ribena. Relatively simple as these wines go, though with that characteristic Kracher purity and freshness. When re-tasted it’s the raspberry and, again, the cassis cordial that one really hones in on. Saline as ever with a lovely and distinct minerality, here just a little oyster shell but also a subtle hint of salted roasted macademia nuts. With aeration the acidity seems to mount and it reins in the sugar. I think this will age very well, but at the moment it hasn’t fully come together. 95/100 Punkte.
